There are almost 10 million people living in Hungary. This small country is one of the oldest European countries, situated in the middle of the continent in Central Europe. Although its neighbors political boundaries were redrawn in the early 1990s, Hungary’s territory remained unchanged. It covers four major regions: the Danube River valley, the Great Plain, the Lake Balaton region, and the Northern Mountains.nnThe Hungarian, or ‘magyar’ language is universally spoken in Hungary. It’s not even similar to any other languages in the world. nnThe Hungarian diet is heavily meat-based. Pork is the most commonly used ingredient. The most famous dish is probably goulash (gulyás). It is a soup made of meat, onions, carrots, potatoes, and seasoned with paprika, of course. Often, other vegetables are added as well. Stew with sour cream are called paprikash (paprikás). Fish soups (called halászlé) are also popular. Our desserts are filled pancakes and strudels.
